Plume vs CREST: HSC Economics teaching and exam preparation

In Plume's Economics classes, students practise explaining how an economic change happens and supporting an answer with evidence. Their class tutor marks their answers and helps them correct gaps in the explanation before the next assessment.

CREST is also an Economics specialist, with essay support and practice exams. Its published classroom course is cheaper and shorter than Plume's.

Those fees give Plume students 25 scheduled group hours, including assessments, against CREST's 18. Plume costs A$310 more for seven additional hours and the lower class cap. There is no new-student administration fee at Plume.

CREST divides its two-hour lesson into 100 minutes of teaching and 20 minutes reviewing essays, economic updates or budget analysis. Essay scaffolds, marking and worked short-answer solutions are included.

From an essay plan to an exam answer

Plume teaches diagrams, data questions and short answers as well as essays. In essay work, students learn to select evidence, weigh different effects and reach a judgement that answers the question. Unlimited submissions let them keep working on their tutor's feedback.

Timed quizzes check what they can do independently. The term exam gives them practice managing a longer paper. Our Economics essay guide includes a paragraph correction and timed planning task; the sample quiz and sample exam show the assessment work.

CREST's free resources include a trade and financial flows essay, a macroeconomic policy essay plan and practice-paper links. Its articles connect economic developments to syllabus topics.

Its FAQ says all courses include full-length practice exams with detailed answers. It does not specify a regular supervised exam schedule or who marks each campus submission. The A$700 Exam Program is separate from the classroom fee.

Online study and trials

CREST+ is a different offer from CREST's face-to-face classes. It includes recorded topic teaching, weekly live sessions and unlimited essay marking through its portal, with 12 months' access to a purchased course.

CREST advertises a free trial lesson; the linked pages do not explain whether it becomes payable after enrolment. Plume offers a two-week free trial. If you enrol, both trial weeks are included in your term fees.
