Functions and calculus
Connect graphical, numerical and algebraic representations, then use differentiation and integration with clear reasoning rather than isolated rules.
HSC Mathematics Advanced · Epping
Structured Mathematics Advanced lessons in groups capped at six, with worked examples, deliberate problem practice, weekly quizzes and individual feedback on the methods costing students marks.
A focused class
This course is for Year 11 and Year 12 Mathematics Advanced students who understand parts of the syllabus but need a more reliable way to connect concepts, select methods and finish questions accurately. It also supports confident students who want harder variations and sharper exam technique.
Small classes let the tutor see each student’s working, not only the final answer. That matters in Mathematics Advanced: an incorrect result may come from algebra, interpretation, notation, calculator use or time allocation, and each cause needs a different correction.
Subject priorities
Lessons move from concept to worked model, guided attempt and independent problem solving. The aim is not to memorise one solution, but to recognise when and why a method applies.
Connect graphical, numerical and algebraic representations, then use differentiation and integration with clear reasoning rather than isolated rules.
Interpret probability and data questions carefully, choose an appropriate model and communicate conclusions in the language the problem requires.
Audit working for avoidable losses, practise mixed questions and develop a checking routine that fits within realistic HSC timing.
Course structure
Each week combines explicit teaching, worked examples and problem sets selected to expose common misconceptions. Quizzes and term exams show whether methods can be recalled and adapted without prompts, while feedback identifies the next skill to consolidate.

From our original practice guides
A geometric sequence has first term 12 and common ratio 1.5. Find its fourth term and the sum of its first four terms.
The first four terms are 12, 18, 27 and 40.5. The fourth term is 40.5; their sum is 12 + 18 + 27 + 40.5 = 97.5.
If you obtained 60.75 for the fourth term, you multiplied by the ratio four times and reached the fifth term. Our full guide shows the formulas and a second worked example on stationary points.
