Cognito students mark their own Maths homework. At Plume, the tutor who teaches the class marks it. That gives us a chance to catch errors a student has missed and explain what to practise before the next assessment.

Marking and exam practice
Cognito supplies homework criteria and exemplars. Students can ask for feedback through Slack or a tutorial, and tutors mark end-of-module and mock exams. Cognito FAQ.
Plume's HSC exam specialists teach students how to approach unfamiliar questions and explain their working. A student may know the topic but miss how the first part of a question helps with the second. We work through that connection, then ask them to apply it themselves. Our Extension 1 notes show those explanations.
Weekly timed quizzes check what students can solve independently. A supervised exam each term gives them practice allocating time across a paper. Their tutor uses errors in practice responses to guide further work. See our sample quiz and practice exam.
Cognito's Extension 1 course has topic exams, question reviews and exam analytics, followed by an HSC preparation phase and final mock exam. Dates depend on the graduating year. It also offers classes following a school's topic and assessment order, subject to availability.
Combined course or separate classes
Cognito includes Advanced and Extension 1 in one two-hour weekly class, capped at nine students. Plume caps classes at eight and teaches the two courses separately.
| Year 12 option | Standard fee before discounts | Scheduled group time |
|---|---|---|
| Plume Extension 1 only | A$950 per 10-week term | 25 hours: ten 2.5-hour sessions |
| Plume Advanced plus Extension 1 | A$1,850 per 10-week term | 50 hours across two weekly classes |
| Cognito Extension 1, including Advanced | A$1,175 per eight-lesson term | 16 hours: eight two-hour sessions |
These scheduled hours include assessments. Plume's combined enrolment costs more and takes five hours a week. Each course has its own time for explanations, worked questions and exam practice. The A$950 standalone Extension 1 fee covers less content than Cognito's combined course.
Cognito includes optional tutorials outside class and charges no enrolment fee. Its pricing page lists five terms for standard Year 12 courses and six for accelerated courses.
