Advanced functions and calculus
Handle harder identities, inverse relationships and calculus applications by linking each manipulation to the structure of the problem.
HSC Mathematics Extension 1 · Chatswood
Focused Mathematics Extension 1 lessons in groups capped at six, combining rigorous explanations, unfamiliar problems, timed practice and feedback on both mathematical reasoning and exam execution.
A focused class
This course is for Year 11 and Year 12 Extension 1 students who want depth as well as speed. It suits students stepping up from Mathematics Advanced, students whose results vary between topics, and high performers seeking more demanding applications than routine textbook exercises provide.
Extension questions often compress several ideas into one unfamiliar setup. In a small class, the tutor can inspect how a student starts, where the reasoning branches and whether the notation communicates a complete argument—not merely whether the answer matches.
Subject priorities
The program develops a repeatable way to parse conditions, choose representations and test an approach. Students practise complete solutions and learn when to abandon an unproductive path.
Handle harder identities, inverse relationships and calculus applications by linking each manipulation to the structure of the problem.
Translate verbal constraints into mathematical cases, justify each step and recognise when symmetry or complementary counting simplifies the task.
Practise maintaining accuracy across connected parts, using earlier results intelligently and allocating time according to available marks.
Course structure
Weekly classes combine concept development with difficult, mixed-source questions. Timed quizzes check fluency; marked homework exposes reasoning gaps; and a final term exam asks students to transfer methods across unfamiliar combinations.

Extension 1 tutors
The listed Extension 1 tutors are selected for strong mathematical results and clear communication. They model complete reasoning, then make students do the decision-making themselves.
