Plume teaches HSC English Advanced, Maths Advanced, Extension 1 and Economics in classes of no more than eight. Exam preparation is part of each course: weekly timed quizzes, a supervised exam each term and marking from the tutor who teaches you.
This guide compares that course structure with larger campus classes, extra tutorials and individual lessons. Plume Specialist Tuition wrote it using provider information checked on 8 October 2026. It compares fees and course inclusions, not independently measured student outcomes.
What students work on at Plume
Knowing the content and answering an exam question are different skills. A student might know an English text but drift from the question, or recognise a Maths solution without being able to start one independently.
At Plume, the class tutor marks the student's attempt and explains what to change. Weekly quizzes give students timed practice, with answers explained in the lesson. The supervised term exam gives them a full paper to practise pacing and finishing their answers.
| Difficulty | Practice task |
|---|---|
| An English paragraph drifts from the question | Rewrite its main claim and connect each piece of evidence to that answer |
| A Maths solution needs a hint to get started | Try an unfamiliar question and explain why the chosen method works |
| An Economics answer names an effect without explaining it | Write the links from cause to consequence |
| An answer is unfinished when time runs out | Attempt a shorter timed set and record where time is being spent |
Our English essay feedback, discursive writing example and quiz and exam resources show the teaching. The writing example includes comments and a revised paragraph.
Fees and course formats
Plume
We teach Year 11 and Year 12 at 30/41 Rawson Street, Epping NSW 2121, near Epping Station. Year 12 courses have a 2.5-hour weekly class; English also includes a private hour each term.
These are standard fees for a ten-week term in Australian dollars, including GST, before discounts. Plume charges no new-student administration fee.
| Course | Year 11 | Year 12 |
|---|---|---|
| English Advanced | A$900 | A$1,170 |
| Mathematics Advanced | A$700 | A$900 |
| Mathematics Extension 1 | A$825 | A$950 |
| Economics | A$800 | A$1,080 |
Duration and inclusions vary by year and course; details are on the linked pages and in our payment policy.
Online arrangements are available on request. A Chatswood centre is planned for Term 1, 2027, with its address, exact opening date, courses and timetable still unconfirmed. Students needing subjects outside our four courses will need another provider.
Matrix
Matrix charges A$1,494 per term for Year 12 campus English Advanced or Maths Advanced. That is A$324 more than Plume for English and A$594 more for Maths Advanced, with a class cap of 15. New students also pay a one-off A$70 enrolment fee.
Its Year 12 guide lists English, Maths and Science courses and private tutor workshops for campus students. Matrix+ is a separate, self-paced online course with videos, printed materials and online support.
Project Academy
Project combines weekly Maths and Economics classes with extra tutorials. Its advertised one-to-four tutorial ratio does not describe the main class size. English Advanced uses a different package of unlimited tutorials and marking.
The extra sessions require more appointments, so their value depends on how many a student attends. Project also teaches sciences and has Chatswood and Hornsby campuses.
Tutero
Tutero matches Year 11 and Year 12 students with tutors for individual online lessons. The lesson plan, exam schedule and written feedback arrangements need to be agreed for that student. A private appointment gives one student the tutor's attention throughout; Plume's group course has its assessment schedule set for the term.
Learnmate
Learnmate is a marketplace of tutors offering online and in-person lessons at their own rates. There is no single Learnmate HSC course. Alongside the profile and hourly rate, families need to agree on the teaching plan, timed papers and marking between lessons.
For local fee and class-size tables, see our Epping comparison, Matrix guide and Plume vs Intuition. A term course and hourly private lessons include different amounts of teaching and support; compare the total cost, marking, extra lesson charges and cancellation terms, as well as travel time.
Check the HSC year
The new English Advanced and Mathematics Advanced syllabuses have their first HSC exams in 2027. The new Economics syllabus has its first HSC exam in 2028; students sitting Economics in 2027 follow the outgoing syllabus. NESA explains the changes for English Advanced, Mathematics Advanced and Economics.
A tutor should know which older questions remain useful for the student's exam year. For English, they also need to teach the prescribed texts and explain how to adapt an argument to the question.
Plume tutors Alric Qin and Howe Yeo each achieved a 99.95 ATAR. Those are their own results. Teaching quality also depends on explanations the student understands and feedback they can use.
Starting lessons
Unresolved content, repeated mistakes or unfinished exam answers are reasons to discuss extra support with a school teacher. There is no need to wait for a poor trial result. For online lessons, check how the tutor sees the student's working and returns written feedback; live lessons and self-paced courses work differently.
Plume offers a two-week free trial in Epping. If you enrol, both trial weeks are included in your term fees. Book a class.
